The Growth Conditions Guide
Clear, independent information on restricted growth and related conditions.

About The Growth Conditions Guide

We are a small independent editorial team writing about restricted growth and related conditions for the people living with them and the families around them, in plain, respectful language.

Good information about restricted growth is surprisingly hard to find. Clinical sources are often written for doctors, and general articles tend to be thin or out of date. We started this guide to sit in the middle: clear explanations of what the conditions are, the health questions that come with them, and the everyday practicalities, all grounded in published sources you can check.

We cover the whole picture rather than a single condition: understanding restricted growth, diagnosis and childhood, bones and joints, everyday life and mobility, and where to find real support. A person's life is not defined by a diagnosis, so neither is this guide.

What we are, and what we are not

An important note. The Growth Conditions Guide is an independent information resource. It is not the former Short Stature Scotland charity (which was removed from the Scottish charity register in 2024), and it is not a continuation of, or connected to, that organisation. We do not take memberships or donations. If you are looking for a support organisation to speak to directly, the Restricted Growth Association UK is the national charity for people affected by restricted growth.

We are an information site, not a clinic. We do not diagnose, treat, or give advice for an individual's situation. When we describe how a condition works or how it is usually managed, that is general information, not a recommendation for you or your child. Always speak to a qualified healthcare professional about your own circumstances.

How we write

We use person-first, respectful language, and we follow the terms the community itself uses. We build articles from published guidance, and when we state a figure we link to its source. You can read more about our sourcing and our limits on the editorial standards page.

Where to start

If you are new to all of this, begin with what restricted growth is. If you are looking for help right now, go to support and services. If you have a question or a correction, we would like to hear it through the contact page.
